THE INDWELLING SAVIOUR TO RULE US

Job 32:8

Morning Meditation 12/6/2015

"But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding."

Christians are a people ruled by the Lord. Before a person is saved the spirit within is dead in its relation to God. Salvation is bringing that spirit to life so that there is in the believer a capacity to answer to God and be ruled by Him.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

Since man has lost his capacity of self rule according to the will of God, when he returns to God in submission to His rulership, there is a change not only of destiny but also of actions.

There are verses that support this in the Scriptures. 1 Corinthians 6:17, "But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit." Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." Walking after the Spirit describes God's rulership in the life.

Romans 8:10, "And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness." Paul is describing a truth here, he is not challenging the Roman Christians to obtain.

His indwelling is not passive.. He operates through our yieldedness to worship; Romans 8:16, "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:" Here His indwelling presence gives assurance of the certainty of our standing with Him.

He is within the believer to enable one not to be in bondage to sin. Galatians 5:16-18, "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law."

Jesus said in Luke 17:21, "Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you."

The word "within" means, "inside you, within your soul." Jesus exercises His Lordship by working within the believer. Philippians 2:12-13, "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."

Jesus is within us to help us pray; Romans 8:26, "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

The holy Spirit is within us to secure us; Ephesians 1:13-14, "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory."

He also can be grieved by our wrong attitudes and actions; Ephesians 4:30, "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."

Jesus indwells us to exercise His rule in His kingdom. Any disobedience grieves Him and all obedience is rewarded by Him.

May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.

In Christ
